Waste Stoppers

Green management of waste is definitely on the political agenda, but is anything being done?

Despite the political initiative from Central Government, the availability of landfill tax for distribution and financial support from Europe, the recent experience here (the Rhondda) is that recycling appears to be going into reverse.

Newspaper used to be recycled, but now we are dependent on initives from outside the Borough to organise doorstop paper collection.

In the meantime some small businesses (who get neither praise nor financial support) are quietly engaged in activities which reduce the amount of material being rejected as waste

  • Reuse. Finding someone who can use others are thowing away - sellers of used goods of all sorts.
  • Lifetime extension. Repairing or upgrading things so that people can continue to use them for longer.
  • Recycling. Taking materials or components and turning them into something else.

If your business includes the above activities, contact the Webmaster and get a free mention here.

Before throwing anything out, see whether any of the businesses below can use it.

Remember, what you throw away doesn't just disappear. In landfill sites it can be a potential nuisance for a long time to come.
