Survey of Evening Buses in the Rhondda

Observation of evening buses in the Rhondda between 14.10.00 and 3.11.00 indicates:
  • 70 per cent of buses are empty - i.e. driver only - no passengers
  • Average occupancy of 0.7 passengers per bus
  • With average bus capacities of about 36 seats, it means that only about 2 per cent of the seats are occupied - i.e. about 98 per cent of the seating capacity is wasted

Because the above figures are based on a small sample, they must be regarded as very approximate.

What is of concern is not just the figures but there appears to be no acknowledgment that a problem exists, no consideration being given to alternatives and (at least till present) no reaction to proposals for alternatives.

Details of alternatives proposed:

Press Releases
Sensible Local Transport
RCT's Draft Local Transport Plan and Responses
