Abergavenny

Market town located near the estern end of the Brecon Beacons.

Points of interes:
  • Ruins of Norman Castle. In 1175 it was the scene of the betrayal of Welsh chieftains by William de Broase. He invited them to a banquet, but then had his guests murdered.
  • Abergavenny Museum - located in the Castle.
  • St. Mary's Priory Church - one of the oldest parish churches in Wales.
  • Borough Theatre in the Town Hall.



Monmouth - The Kymin

The Kymin is a property operated by the National Trust on high ground overlooking the Wye Valley and the town of Monmouth.

In former times it was a favourite place for the local gentry to gather.

There are two noteworthy buidings:
  • {The Round House} (1794). Built to accomodate the dining parties of the local gentry.
  • {The Naval Temple} (1801). Built as a monument to British admirals.


Access to the grounds is free.
