Cardiff and Caerphilly

Pierhead Building The 19th Century Pierhead Building acts as a bridge between the Old and New Cardiff.

All around the area is being extensively redeveloped. The planned (and now approved) new Assembly Building will be located just to the right of it in the photograph..

Cardiff is the capital city and main population centre of Wales.
It is also the only centre in Wales to have a multi-ethnic community of significant proportions.

In its history as a port city, Cardiff attracted seafarers from many parts of the world and many settled in the area around Cardiff Bay. There emerged a community of many cultures which enjoyed for the most part considerable racial harmony.

It is into this community that the modern Cardiff Bay has been carved. The power brokers and money brokers of the New Wales operate in an area barely separated from communities of immigrants, refugees and the indigenous working class.

A stone's throw separates the prestigious St. David's Hotel from a Council estate, the National Assembly is around the corner from a mosque.
