Brecon
Main town of the Brecon Beacons at the point where the River Honddu joins the River Usk. The Welsh name is Aberhonddu - mouth of the River Honddu.
Points of interest:
  • Norman Motte and Bailey Castle dating from 1093 when Bernard de Neufmarche captured the Welsh Kingdom of Brycheiniog.
  • Town withstood the uprisings of Llewellyn Fawr and Owain Glyndŵr - see (null)
  • Became a fashionable winter residence for the rich during the 17th and 18th century. Much Georgean architechture dates from this period.
  • Brecknock museum.
  • Theatre.
  • Canal.


Llandovery
Town at the western edge of the Brecon Beacons. During the 17th and 18th centuries it was a place where drovers met before moving their cattle on to London for sale.
It is still an agricultural and market town.
